Opt2give Day 2020

The Charlotte Optomi office partnered with two local non-profits: The Second Harvest Food Bank of Metrolina and Beds for Kids for our annual Opt2Give day.

We spent our morning at Second Harvest Food Bank in their warehouse/distribution center helping inspect and sort goods or non-food products that are distributed to 700 non-profit partner agencies including food pantries, soup kitchens, shelters, low-income day care centers and senior programs. The Second Harvest Food Bank of the Metrolina serves 14 counties in North Carolina and 10 counties in South Carolina. In this region: 14.9% of their service area population, over 553,000 people, live in poverty including almost 182,000 children and almost 48,000 seniors.

Half way through our day, we transitioned our efforts to another local non-profit, Beds for Kids. Their mission is to “empower families with children by delivering beds and other essential furniture items to powerfully supplement the family’s resources as they rise out of poverty and into self-sufficiency”. To support this goal, our teams divided into 4 small groups so that our reach could be quadrupled. 3 of the 4 teams assisted in furniture/bed deliveries while one team stayed back in the warehouse to start pulling deliveries for the following day. On the night of November 5, at least 3 families in Charlotte were lifted off of the floor and crawled into their very own bed because of this wonderful non-profit and the time the Charlotte Optomi team gave.
