Senior Linux Systems Engineer

Optomi, in partnership with an industry leader in Datacenter Solutions and Managed Services, is seeking a Linux Systems Engineer for their Denver, CO location. The Senior Linux Systems Engineer will be responsible for providing level III systems management and engineering.

  • 4+ years of experience engineering Linux server infrastructures
  • Experience working in a variety of different OS Architectures
  • Experience with Kernel and network based systems tuning
  • Shell Scripting


  • Assist with management of internal and customer Linux server infrastructures (RHEL5/RHEL6/CentOS)
  • Configure systems according to standard company systems build practices
  • Interface with project sponsoring groups to gather requirements and be responsible for implementation and post implementation support
  • Monitor, evaluate and solve multifaceted, multi-tiered complex hardware and/or software-related performance issues
  • Must function as a member of a team and thrive in a fast paced, interrupt-driven systems environment
  • Monitor resource usage, making required recommendations and adjustments
  • Participate in on-call production support activities
  • Coordinates activities with Vendors
  • Responsible for contributing to the development of the organizations goals and objectives
  • Recommend improvements to facilitate better management and monitoring of the environment
  • Proactively create procedures to prevent and reduce the severity of outages
  • Assist with the installation, configuration and management of the Linux infrastructure
  • Analyze system performance and knowledge of system parameters to improve the utilization of system resources
  • Perform other duties as assigned


  • 5+ years of progressively responsible experience within the realm of systems administration engineering
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Experience configuring and tuning LVM volumes (Logical volume manager)
  • Experience with Kernel and network based systems tuning
  • Experience with shell scripting (bash OR Perl)
  • Experience with EMC PowerPath or RedHat native multipathing
  • Experience with DNS fundamentals and BIND
  • Experience with Linux package management.
  • Experience with Apache webserver
  • Experience with SMTP; postfix/sendmail
  • Experience with Apache setup/configuration, modules, custom handlers and virtual hosts.
  • Experience with Linux based firewall technology (LVS and IPTables).
  • Experience with TCP/IP, general networking principles, and web technologies.


  • Experience with Ldap/Kerberos a plus
  • Experience with Splunk a plus
  • Experience with compliance initiatives such as PCI, HIPPA, FedRAMP a plus
  • Knowledge of clustering (Redhat Cluster Suite/Load balancing) desirable
  • Experience with configuration management software, such as Chef or Puppet, highly desirable
  • VMware/XEN experience a plus
