Front End Web Developer, Itasca IL

Optomi, in partnership with a global insurance brokerage and risk management firm is seeking a Front End Web Developer. The Front End Web Developer will ride the hybrid line between back-end/front-end development, design, user experience, and information architecture. The developer will have a passion for web development and an insatiable curiosity that keeps them learning new techniques, patterns and processes to elevate their skills and the product delivered. The successful candidate will take pride in writing clean, readable, reusable and semantic code. Beyond the front-end, the web development team looks for technology agnostic solutions and understands and advocates the efficiency and necessity of separation of concerns: business, presentation, code.

What you will be doing:

• Lead and contribute to front-end web development projects acting as subject matter expert and encompassing all facets of web development. 
• Conceptualize and document detailed navigation flows, site maps, wireframes and interface designs that capture site processes and all user interaction points with the system.
• Work closely and cohesively with user experience and back-end development teams to execute projects within development release cycle process. 
• Create engaging, smart and intuitive web experiences. You will continuously challenge yourself and our processes to elevate the presence of the suite of AJG sites. Troubleshoot and solve any front-end user / design inconsistencies and irregularities. 
• Where necessary, interact with business stakeholders and divisional marketers to determine technical requirements and goals and to simply and clearly explain proposed technical solutions. 
• Demonstrate design integrity and user empathy in your work. 
• Maintain legacy code and existing web properties. 
• Work hand-in-hand with other Front-End Developers and train and mentor their growth. Review code generated by other developers and provide suggestions and insights into optimization and scalability for enterprise deployment.

• 5+ years of practical, relevant working experience in web technology development. 
• Expert command of all Front-End Development Technologies: HTML5, CSS, JavaScript, JavaScript Libraries, JSON, AJAX. Hand coding – no WYSIWYG editors.
• Practitioner of web standards and accessibility.
• Motivated self-starter, continual learner, voracious curiosity, process-oriented with high attention to detail.
• Strong understanding of Web CMS concepts
• Solid experience in traditional multiple environment architecture and deployment paths
• Solid experience in preserving your work daily in source control
• Solid understanding in conceptualization and execution within User Experience and Rapid Prototyping.
• Development awareness of server side processes, exemplifying DRY principles in MVC architecture and .NET.
