Optomi’s Baltimore Team Spent Opt2give day at the Maryland Food bank. In Maryland, 1 in 9 children are food insecure, so we feel like their mission aligns very well with ours. Over the course of the year, the Food Bank provides more than 37 million meals, via more than 1,000 distribution partners throughout the state, to those in need. During our visits, we sorted more than 34,000 lbs of food and other necessities which equates to more than 28,000 meals!

We also spent a day at the Ulman House. The Ulman House is run by one of my favorite local charities, The Ulman Foundation. Ulman offers guidance and assistance for people aged 15-39 who are battling cancer. The Ulman House is basically their own version of a Ronald McDonald House and will be available to any young adult that is in Baltimore for treatment at any of our local medical facilities. Whether they need to stay in town for three days or three months, the patients and their families will be welcomed into the Ulman House at no cost. The “house” is actually the combination of 6 historic Baltimore row homes that had fallen in to disrepair. Now, they’ve come together for a beautiful home that features 9 guest suites, a gym, meditation room, communal kitchen, etc. We spent the day doing making brunch for a number of their visitors, doing some general maintenance around the property, and filled a few postcards with words of encouragement for some of their former guests whose stories we’d read.
